For at least a decade, the fields around my house here in Northern Indiana have been conventionally farmed. This means it’s a big, uninterrupted piece of land growing corn for two or three years followed by a year of soy beans followed by more corn. It’s a common site in this part of the country. Beautiful in it’s own way. The corn behind the house last year grew to be 14ft tall in only three months. And it’s so green! So green that a friend of mine who grew up with mostly sage scrub in San Diego didn’t believe it was real. But this year will be different.

While the rest of the fields in the neighborhood will take their turn with soy beans, the 1.3 acres between our house and the next road will not. That’s because in February, we bought that plot of land and have been working tirelessly (or actually pretty tired-fully) to turn it into a cut flower farm.

It may not look like much yet, but we are working on it. Keep coming back and see how the transformation progresses. We’ll keep you posted as we move literal tons of dirt, plant thousands of seeds, and hopefully, if all goes well, be able to share our flowers with you in the coming months.
